URL Encoder & Decoder

Encode or decode URLs and query strings online. Percent-encode special characters, UTF-8 and emoji, or decode %20 sequences back to readable text.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Use it from code

The same function is available as an API endpoint. Free tier: 100 calls per day without a key. Pro lifts the limit.

curl -X POST https://spincrus.uz/api/v1/tools/url-encode-decode \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-key: YOUR_KEY" \
  -d '{"text":"https://example.com/search?q=café & crème","mode":"encode","scope":"full","plusAsSpace":false}'

FAQ

What is the difference between "component" and "full" scope?

Component scope (encodeURIComponent) escapes every character except letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ( ). Use it for a single query value or path segment. Full scope (encodeURI) leaves : / ? # & = intact so a complete URL stays usable.

Why is a space sometimes %20 and sometimes +?

%20 is the standard percent-encoding of a space. A "+" means space only in application/x-www-form-urlencoded data, such as HTML form submissions and many query strings. Enable "Decode + as space" when decoding those.

Why does decoding fail with "not valid percent-encoding"?

The input has a "%" not followed by two hex digits (for example "100%"), or the escaped bytes do not form valid UTF-8. Encode a literal percent sign as %25.
